Project 2: “Cottoncandy”
Yes, we have started with our second project! This time, however, with a slightly different crew and production. In our team, we have Aung, Katini, Mas, Poy and me. This is a T204 Production Practicum project, where we have to develop a story from T202 Art Of Story into a short film.
On the 10th of December, we have looked through several stories written during Art Of Story classes. We have, however picked a story with the genre of thriller or suspense. We did not take directly from the story but instead, we adapted it and created a new story from the initial story’s idea. The initial story was about Wendy who went on searching for her ‘Uncle Eddy’ but found something amiss. Our initial version of the story was about Wendy who can’t seem to understand that all the while, her uncle was dead and that he died as a cruel man who abused her. It was a hair raising story as it has this warm mood slowly revealing the truth as the story goes on.
From there we wanted to create something which would be sort of mysterious yet leaving you not unable to forget the emotions the story evoked in you. We came up with various versions but finalised the storyline just now, when we met for discussion. We are focusing quite a lot on effects and post-production this time, because we want to experiment and see what we can do to create these effects, which Aung had in mind.
This time, I play the role of an assistant director and scriptwriter. From the past experience, we learnt so much from our mistakes so we managed the casting right away! This time, it was much more easier as we only needed a few cast for the film. Oh yes, the film is entitled Cottoncandy due to the events happening within the story. Filming will begin tomorrow, with the shots in school taken first.
Here’s a brief summary of Cottoncandy.
Jasmine goes through each and everyday of her life as if nothing ever happened. But everyone else knew. Jasmine, however, prefer to put on a pretense. She believed that if she did not acknowledge the truth, it will never prevail. But she was wrong. Midnight will always be the time that hurts her the most, and that is also when truth can never be shunned.
Yes, that’s for now! Be sure to stay tuned to know the full story! Haha!
