Project 1: Obsession
Hello once again! (:
As the title suggests, I have already came up with the first project. And of course, I wouldn’t be doing it alone. I am proud to announce that I have a production team. Our crew consists of Afiq, Atiqah, Aung, Hani, Katini and Mas. We will be switching roles in order to let everybody gain an experience on the different aspects of film/media production.
For our first project, I have came up with the story, thus making me officially the screenwriter. It will be a short film entitled, “Obsession”. In short, it simply tells a story about a girl who would do anything to achieve her dreams, even if it means that she would have to go to the extremes. It is definitely not an ordinary story as you would never expect it to be so creepy. So far, reviews from the other crew have been great, and that signals the start of our production. God knows how excited I am to be adapting my written story into a motion picture. I can already picture every scene in my head.
People have been asking where I get my inspiration from. Some said it must have been my experience. But NOOO! I am not that creepy stalker who got lost in the world of her own. Now people, this is my answer.
I actually drew inspirations from existing films. I am a big fan of modern chick flicks, like Lovewrecked, House Bunny, Wild Child, Mean Girls, and Just My Luck. Call me girly, but I admit that I do love romantic comedies and stories about teenage life and you know, having cliques in school and being in love. That is because I know, they are adaptations of fairytales and they will always have happy endings.

Amanda Bynes is a favourite!

And so is Emma Stone. Check out her upcoming movie, Easy A. Great cast!

Emma Roberts in Wild Child.

Mean Girls! Talking about cliques…

The storyline for this, for me, is really good. Good job, I. Marlene King and Amy B. Harris. It’s like an adaptation of Cinderella. Finding the right kiss instead of the right foot for the glass slipper. Yes, no?
Anyway, I wanted to create something new whereby it might seem like a fairytale, but it doesn’t end with happily ever after. It is some kind of twist. In my story, the ugly duckling doesn’t turn into a swan. You might already get the idea now.
The screenplay is almost done, only that a few changes have to be made. Casting will be decided this coming week. The dates for filming has been confirmed but the timings and location has yet to. For now, I’m working on the character profiles so that it could be handed over to Atiqah, who would be our stylist and production designer. As for the storyboarding, we are also halfway done as we need to confirm the locations again and for that to happen, we need to check out the suggested places.
The progress is going quite slow, but it is understandable because we do have to juggle school at the same time. We are looking forward to the holidays to finish up our very first production. Hopefully, we will be able to fit in another project at the same time.
And, we have yet to name our production. Suggestions, anybody?
- Sakinah (:
